Curious if others have experienced a major career pivot after burnout. I went from practicing law into a business role where my law background is helpful, but not required. Escaping billable hours improved my work-life balance a lot, but mentally the shift has felt strange at times.
I feel like most people follow a more “standard” career path, so taking a different route can create a weird sense of imposter syndrome — even when the change is positive. For example, feeling like law school and the debt associated with it was a mistake. (Insert "X school" as an example - med school, PT, CPA, etc.)
I’m interested in hearing from others who made a similar transition, especially from high-pressure professional careers (or requiring professional licensure) into something different that may not necessarily need those licenses. I’m also considering writing about this idea in a book about burnout and career shifts — normalizing alternative career paths and showing that stepping away from burnout shouldn’t feel like failure or a taboo decision. Thoughts?
