Credit Card Numbers Auto Update

Not sure if you're aware of this or not (I wasn't) but if you are issued a new credit card number the credit card company will automatically update your number to companies that auto charge your account. I recently had a fraudulent charge on my credit card and was issued a new card number (still waiting for the card to arrive) and was surprised to see subscription charges show up now that I have a new card number. They claim that VISA and Mastercard are the ones that do this. My questions is wha...

S Corp

My husband and I both run our own small businesses (both single member LLCs) in two different industries farrier and personal trainer. Our CPA has recommended electing as a S Corp to help with self employment tax and that would should combine our businesses into one so we only need to file once instead of two separate filings. I'm curious if anyone has any experience or thoughts on this and then does that put both businesses at risk unnecessarily by combing them? I've also heard that I could sta...

Roth distribution and taxes

Hi ChooseFI community, I am struggling with a tax issue and thought I would see if anyone has additional thoughts. I will try to explain succinctly. In October of 2024 I received a notification from the IRS that I underreported on my 2022 taxes and owe taxes on a Roth IRA distribution ($35,000 I used towards a down payment on a home) and penalty and interest. I did miss reporting this on my taxes so made an honest mistake. However, I don't believe I owe the $15,000+ dollars the IRS claims I owe....

Any value in making non-deductible traditional IRA contributions?

Am I crazy in thinking that there’s no real value in contributing to a traditional IRA with after-tax money when your income exceeds the deductibility income limits? We also cannot do backdoor Roth out of this IRA account due to the existence of another IRA account that contains rolled over pre-tax dollar from a prior workplace 401k plan. So, I assume non-deductible traditional IRA contributions where there is no backdoor Roth game plan is even less useful than a taxable brokerage account due to...

Fancy New Tools

With all these new tools floating around, I wanted to learn from other’s experiences to help limit the options. I currently am using Copilot Money on a two month trial basis. It’s nice, but it’s limited on future planning and goals related to anything but savings. What products have you used that you would recommend? Monarch? Origin? Etc. I have a full daily cash flow spreadsheet and net worth tracker, but I’d like to automate some of these models. Thanks all!

Asset allocation for money you’ll never spend

Let’s consider a 70 year old couple from the FI community who have lived a good, yet conservative life. They have no debt, $2M of investable assets, receive $40k in social security annually, and have an annual spend of $80k (with no interest of spending more). By all measures, they’ve over-saved—and they’re ok with that! Based on the 4% rule of thumb, we know their first $1M of their portfolio should be able to generate the needed $40k for the portion of their annual spend not covered by social...
