I'm reading the book, "The Childfree Guide to Life and Money", by Jay Zigmont where he mentions the opt-out long-term care option. This has been my plan since I retired a couple of years ago without a million dollars and no medical insurance.
I am single, childfree, no pets, and plan to die with zero. I signed paperwork to donate my body to the local medical school years ago and also pre-paid for my death certificates, funeral home transportation from the local hospital to the local medical school, and cremation if necessary.
I am posting this anonymously since many people do not like to talk about death. I live in a different state than my family and we are estranged so I cannot depend on them to help me with anything.
I think it's irresponsible to expect other people to make decisions for you after you die which is why I have a revocable trust and have prepaid for my death expenses. I am also a minimalist and rent a very tiny apartment to prevent me from acquiring too many things that will need to be dealt with after I'm gone.
Jay Zigmont mentions in his book that he has clients who have chosen the opt-out long-term care option (euthanasia/similar programs) so I know that I am not the only one. I am hoping there are others in this community who are considering this option as well so we know that we are not alone.
