Anyone here successfully transition from full time employee in software development to being an independent contractor? Curious if it's worth the effort. I'd worry a lot about liability risk and not being able to complete a project on time. I feel like you could easily get way in over your head. What's a good starting point? How did you do it?

I was just having a conversation about this with AI this morning lol. I was looking more at freelance / part-time roles for after FI to stay mentally engaged (since I still like it, just not so much in the corporate environment) and to earn some splurge income. Upwork was suggested but haven't checked it out. If anyone has, would love to hear about your experience.
