Presentation Parties

Presentation Parties

After reading the newsletter on Oct 6th I saw this comment from "Dean" that made me think I am NOT attending the right parties.

Please, if anyone knows of any of these "Presentation Parties" happening or who this Dean is and how I can attend these parties/see how they are hosted I'd LOVE to know more! I've searched the forums and have been unsuccesful thus far. Thanks!

| “ | This weekend, I gave my second (of the year) presentation on the FIRE movement, shared investment strategies (mentioning as a courtesy that I am not a CFP), and called out ChooseFI (by name) as a helpful resource in trying to introduce potential new followers to the FIRE movement and the prospect of taking back our most valuable non-renewable resource: time. Each of these presentations was at a 'presentation party' during which friends present on a range of fun and possibly-helpful topics. This not only made me 1% better by challenging my knowledge and expertise of the movement, but also might have made numerous others' lives much MORE than 1% better by relaying this helpful information and introducing them to this lifestyle! — Dean | |---|---|

What if you didn't have to fully retire?

Financial freedom doesn't mean quitting work. Design a life where work is optional.

Yes to all of these replies OR sign up for your local FI group. I'm doing a presentation and case study in a couple weeks on healthcare for early retrement based on my own experiences and numbers.

As others have said… If you don't know someone hosting these, sounds like an opportunity for you to fill that void in your community! It's as simple as getting people together (could be at a coffeeshop, brewery, library, or even a park on a nice day) and giving them the inspiration.

One of my friend groups did this a few months back for a Friday happy hour. We gathered at a friend's house and had people sign up to give 5 minute "TED Talks" on whatever topics they were passionate about. Limiting to 5 minutes kept it from feeling too daunting so we had 10-12 signups, and we got a wide variety of presentations.

Give it a try and let us know how it went!

I started a similar concept amongst my friends. We call it Elevate and Create. Over the last year + we've learned several crafty topics and cooking skills. I'm next on the roster with teaching various Sourdough recipes/skills.

In '27 I'll host a friend I met from our local ChooseFI group on the topic of cyber security. Nick Sparks@Nick Sparks

I love this!

I had a vacation with friends recently where we did just this, present random topics to eachother. It was so much fun with so many laughs, topics included: the best vampire story series, why we should all homestead together, conspiracy theories 101, and "I cant stop saying this meme".

I hadn't even considered doing a FI related presentation, that would have been a fun eye opener for some.

You can just host one! My son & his friends do this – cheap fun. He also hosted one at his dorm, and they liked it so much, the Dorm RA asked if he would host it on a recurring basis! Obvs, he wasn't talking FI.

One time they assigned topics ("what is your favorite color and why is it the best color? Discuss/defend."). Plenty of room for silly or serious. Sometimes there's a time limit to the prep (arrive with your laptop, get assigned a topic, then you have 30 mins to create a 5-min presentation, go!).

This is just too funny. For most people, the "important" things about a party are the music and what drinks are being served. And yet, here we are asking, "where can I go to a party that includes presentations about investing strategies and lifestyle design?" 🤣😂🤣
