Retiring early LinkedIn

Retiring early LinkedIn

Question for the group: What do you post on LinkedIn status for retiring early?
Context: I am planning on retiring within the next 6-9 months (age 50), but I don't think it's the end of my career, more like a break for about a year. Then after a year off, I'm guessing I'll do some part time work. But I don't know what I'm doing on my break or exactly what my part time work will be, yet. I really want to take a year or two to figure it out.

Does anyone have any examples of what they post as their job status? I want to make it as easy as possible to get another "good" (even if it's part time) job in a year, and I don't want it to look like I'm unintentionally unemployed.

Thoughts?

I deleted my LinkedIn -problem solved.

If you plan on going back to work just put sabbatical and have an explanation ready if they ask during an interview.

You can even use this time to explore interests that connect both personal and professional sides — like learning something new, mentoring, or diving into self-discovery fields such as personal color analysis, which helps you understand how colors reflect your individuality and confidence.

Many professionals who take a mid-career break use this kind of phase to rebrand themselves — so when you return to work, it looks like you’ve invested in personal insight and renewal, not just taken time off.

Conveniently "forget" to update it when you leave your current job - figure it later if/when you come back to Linked.in

. If you're back in the grind after a year, then you'll be on there anyhow ;) and you'll have a year's experience or more of what you actually did to boot.

Congratulations! That is wonderful!

Because of the kind of work I do, I would list myself as a writer and just leave it at that.

Because I'm self-employed, I didn't change my LinkedIn status at all.

I list some current pro bono clients under my "work" section (with their consent), more to promote the work of these organizations than anything else.

In my previous career, I did recruiting. I was never turned off when someone listed "Career Break", "Career Sabbatical", or "Professional Pause." In the description, you could also list professional goals and accomplishments you are focused on. I believe this will humanize you but still make it feel strategic and intentional when you begin to look for part-time work. I hope you have a great year off!
