I worked at USAA for over 10 years, and I've only had four auto claims, and I've never filed a home insurance claim.
So really, I'm being completely unreasonable in not shopping for other insurance plans. But I know that USAA has (historically, not so much lately) been famous for being easier to work with than other insurance companies. We've had insurance with them since the beginning and it's hard to shop around.
What is the experience like chasing lower premiums? Are y'all using certain tools? Are the lower premiums often a temporary new-member discount?
I'd like to be talked off the cliff to give me confidence to try it… I'd be especially interested if you have claim experience, before and after, with switching to new providers and if you've noticed any drawbacks.
