What are your Monarch Money tips?

We were long time Mint users (and really miss it) but we took the leap to try out Monarch Money while they were offering 50% off the first year. I think the app works well synching with accounts and categorizing but it feels like there might be other features we're missing that led to all the wonderful recommendations. Are you a Monarch Money user that find it helps you stay on budget? What are some aspects you like (bonus points if they help keep you accountable)?

I mainly use Monarch for keeping tabs on my transactions (watching for fraudulent transactions or subscriptions I thought were cancelled), plus tracking how much money is in my accounts.

But I have been getting into really appreciating the “cash flow” tab to keep up with how much I’ve spent on a category in a given month. It has helped me realize that I tend to have a sense that I’ve spent a lot when there have been a lot of transactions, even if the amount is low, and I think I’ve spent little if there have been few transactions (even if high cost). So the cash flow tab is really helping me keep on track of how much I’ve actually spent and not accidentally over- or under-spend.

I just started using Monarch, and so far I like it. I still can't get the Amazon plugin to work very well. I cannot see the itemized Amazon purchase categories as I'd like, although it says it is syncing correctly. I am also looking for tips!

Hey, we also made the switch and like a few things about Monarch (but are still considering switching to a cheaper one next year). I like creating our own budget items -- that means not just a general kids expense tab, but sorting it out for kids gear, kids school/daycare, kids gifts -- that gives us such a better picture of how we are spending money. We also have a special "beer" tag since we love going to local breweries that lets us tease that out from the genric restaurants and bars tag normally assigned to those transactions. I would say that is my favorite feature and my second favorite is the goal setting function -- we set milestones for us and then when we achieve them can replace that goal with a new one -- like ok we hit X amount in all our combined retirement accounts, now let's shoot for X+50k in all those accounts. It shows a great overview of how you close you are every time you log in, which I really appreciate it.
